Memorial for 800

Håøya, Norway 2014

developed and created by Mareike Nele Dobewall, Freya Sif Hestnes and Camilla Haegebarth,

For the memorial for the 800 young german soldiers that died in the Second World War in the fjord in Norway we collected sticks on location, all individual in their appearance, and put them into a different context. We painted them white and gave each of them a number in order to give a possibility for the finder to connect. The frame was set clearly: At the time the Kiel-Oslo ferry would pass above the wrack of the „Blücher“ we would set the 800 sticks free, into the water. How the memorial would evolve was kept open.

A newspaper article about the sticks from may 2014 in Norwegian.

In 2015 someone sent me images of sticks they found.
