Mareike Dobewall is a director, scenographer, musician and composer. Her work is not bound to a genre but rather crosses the boundaries of genres and includes various art forms.
She studied at Kaskeline Filmakademie in Berlin, at the Norwegian Theatre Academy in Fredrikstad, at Inter-University Center for Dance Berlin (HZT) and at Stockholm University of the Arts. She has worked in film, theatre, dance, music and installation art. In the past years she has put a main focus on the qualities of sound in live performance.
Mareike Dobewall is also artistic researcher. In 2021 she completed her PhD at Stockholm University of the Arts within
the PhD program Performative and Media based practices, with a specialization in Opera
with her thesis Voicelanding - exploring the
scenographic potential of acoustic sound in site-sensitive performance. Through the creation of several art works, she developed spatial sound performance.
Since 2022 Mareike Dobewall is a member of the International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM), encouraging women´s role in music. In 2023 she joined Konstmusiksystrar (Sisters in Contemporary Music), a network for composers and sound artists who define themselves as women, non-binary or transgender people.
She is also member of SAR, Society for Artistic Research, where practices of artistic research as undertaken both in and outside academic institutions are promoted. Herein she is a member of the special interest group Artist Pedagogy Research.
